Rice is not a car, its an attitude! The quality of the look of a car is an opinion, what you may not like someone else may like. A car with stickers and a huge wing isn't rice unless the driver talks like his car is the shit and lies or exaggerates. You may not like the way it looks but maybe the driver does; he's the one that drives it... not you. If he thinks the big wing helps performance... thats not rice either... thats ignorance. I'll give you an example of rice and non-rice:
If you claim any car made in Japan and has been modified as rice or just any car modified in a similar fashion as rice...then these are examples of the difference between GOOD RICE AND BAD RICE!
RICE (bad rice):
Joe owns a Civic DX... he (his parents) bought it because of the Fast and the Furious and he couldn't afford (parents wouldnt pay) for a Supra. He buys an APC (A Piece of Crap) intake from Kragen and a muffler with a 5" exhaust tip (no catback). Joe thinks no more about his engine... believing that its fast, because he doesn't know the truth. He then spends $2000 dollars of his parents money to buy a black widow body kit. So far he's not rice. Then he gets rims, a HUGE wing, exterior graphics, and neons. (still not rice, may be ugly to you, or stupid to you, but still not rice) then he takes his Civic down to the local street racing gathering place... and starts talking shit about how fast his car is. NOW HE IS RICE!!!! The key to this is the shit talking not what he did to his car. You can also buy all the correct expensive good parts and still not put forced induction on, and still be a ricer if you talk shit.
MORE RICE (bad rice)
Chris buys a Honda Civic because he thought how cool Joe is in his Civic. He got the DX model because he thought. "All Civics are alike." He doesn't have much money and is quite lazy. He wants to lower hsi car but doesn't want to pay for coilovers...so he lowers it by cutting the springs... which he does by himself and which he does it wrong. He adds no camber kit and rides on the sides of his tires. Chris clears out his tail lights himself and does a shitty job. Chris decides to tacket the engine... so he buys a bunch of cheap APC stuff and puts them in wrong too. He then gets some cheap imitation rims (or chrome hub caps from walwart). He puts spacers on and has the tires 3 inches out of the wheel well... He gets his car painted bright baby blue and paints his interior bright orange. Chris buys a huge aluminum spoiler and installs it. He then adds a crap load of decals depicting "NOS" "Greddy" "Mugen" etc. All stuff he doesn't have... He gets the 6 inch exhaust tip (nothing else, just the tip)... and puts on about 4 sets of fog lights... also he gets the front bumber from a body kit and nothing else. He then proceeds to bounce his way down the street to the local racing gathering place. He flips on his neons that are half broken from scraping the ground... he is missing on rim because he got a flat from too much camber and lies and says its for racing. Chris begans talking mad shit about how fast is car is.
Chris is RICE and has been rice from the very beginning... this is the worse kind of rice. Does a shit load of "mods" and does them all wrong... and also has the nerve to talk shit. The difference between Chris and Joe is that Joe did all his "mods" correctly and Chris didn't.
NOT RICE (good rice):
John buys (himself) a Civic SI because he's on a budget and wants a bit of a challenge (not because of the Fast & the Furious). He would have got a older 70's era car, but didn't want to deal with the maintenence, and gas prices. He wanted the ease of a newer car. He goes and gets an AEM CAI with a bypass valve (so no water gets in); he can't afford a turbo yet. He gets some 4-2-1 headers and a full catback system exhaust. He lowers his car with shocks and coilovers and adds a camber kit since he doesn't want to fuck up his tires. He gets rims and a system, because he wants to hear some good music while out cruising. He keeps his factory wing because any bigger and it would be stupid. He does some other cosmetic stuff to the inside. He adds some cam gears and a fuel rail and what not. He takes his Civic down to the street racing gathering place and watches the real fast cars race. He challenges a few stock cars and slightly modified cars to race for fun. He doesn't talk all this hype about how fast his car is, because he knows it isnt V8 worthy. He thinks is car is nice and he likes it a lot. John is not rice nor is his car. He still could have added graphics and stickers for parts he has but still wouldn't be a ricer. He takes his Civic home and is impatient about saving money and splurges on brakes and cosmetic stuff (body kit, nice subtle graphics, neons, etc)... all the while not talking shit. THIS IS NOT A RICER NOR IS HIS CAR!!!!
NOT RICE, (good rice)
Bobby, buys a Civic SI not because he can't afford a Supra, but for the challenge of making a small economy car fast. He starts to build up his engine. He thinks about doing a b18c1 engine swap but doesn't see the worth...the b16a2 is fine. So he gets some Headers, forge pistons, a stronger gasket, better Intake Manifold, etc. He buys a catback system exhaust to handle the extra flow from the T4 turbo he bought. He gets all that in with the intercooler. He gets some good rims and tires. Of course he lowers it correctly and puts in some big breaks for added stopping power. After he has finished all this he realizes that he only spent about 10K after buying the car. He takes it to the shop and gets it dynoed. 320 HP!!! hes surprised but disappointed so he goes and gets a 50 shot a nitrous oxide. He then takes his car down to the street racing gathering place and challenges cars left and right. Why? because he has to break it the new stuff in. He toasts a few "ricers" and even a V8 Mustang, but loses to WS6 Firebird. So the next week he takes his Civic to the track and runs a 12.9; 1/4 mile... feeling satisfied he starts working on the interior/exterior and other cosmetic (body kit, neons, etc) details... knowing that his true intent was not to build a dragster but to build fast, fun, entertaining, and nice looking car.
BOBBY IS NOT RICE!... why? because he has the car to back up his trash talking.
True "Rice" is a state of mind or an attitude. You can add a huge wing expensive body kit and NO engine mods and still not be rice. You become rice when you act and talk as if your car is the fastest shit in the world. When in reality you drive 1994 Honda Civic DX(106 HP) with no forced induction or any performance engine mods. With a bunch of fast looking parts.
